INTRO SUMMARY
Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals – particularly those who use Auslan as their primary language – face enormous barriers when trying to access mainstream mental health services.
There may also be layers of Deaf Trauma linked to the unique challenges faced in early life.
It is extremely difficult to find mental health professionals who understand these deaf traumas, can communicate effectively with Auslan or have experience working with interpreters, if indeed they can find an interpreter.
We are raising money so that we can support projects which will enhance understanding about and access to better mental health for deaf people.
